Probably because fart-joke movies don't work as well with female leads.
Ratatouille is one of the few that didn't have any fart jokes. I imagine
that Wall-E probably didn't either, although I don't know for sure
because I haven't seen it (yet?).
Being female myself, I don't actually find myself caring that much that
most leads are male. Do black people care much that most hollywood
movies have white leads?

I wonder if it could be a technical challenge.
Have they yet been able to port the Gainax Bounce to a

intelligent and well-written even if they weren't always the leads.
Daria Morgendorffer, Jane Lane, Juniper Lee, Atomic Betty, Kim
Possible, She-Go - if they weren't openly sarcastic, they were
strong-willed and resourceful...quite a change from the old days. ^_^
And I like to think that the female characters of 6Teen are on
relatively equal footing with the male characters. (even if the series
is too silly, at times, for its own good) ^_^
Still, if films like 'Is it Fall/College Yet?' or 'Sitch in Time'
aren't tickling your fancy, perhaps you could get the ball rolling, so
to speak...
--------
What type of character do you want as the lead?
a cheerleader?
a bookworm?
a working woman looking for a break from the grind?
--------
What type of clothing do you want her to wear?
a sensible shirt, pair of pants and shoes?
a tank top, hot pants, socks and runners?
how about a skimpy costume that would make most sci-fi heroines
jealous?
--------
What would you like her to do over the course of the film?
Save the world (yet again)?
Explore interesting parts of the world/universe?
Simply get through her (exciting) day in one piece?
--------
When I was reading your post, I immediately thought up a (not kid-
friendly) film that parodied what the various female characters of the
past went through. The main character (raven-haired, sensibly
dressed, imperfect build) knew that she was a cartoon and would
frequently break the fourth wall in the interest of humor. The
audiance would discover more about her past as the film 'dragged on'
(if the male viewers didn't keep staring at her 'best assets') and, no
doubt, chuckle at a few of her (former) hobbies. ~_^
--------
Female friend: Octopus juggling?
Main Character: I don't like to talk about it.
--------
I have no doubt that you could come up with a better 'promotional
vehicle' for the 'better half of humanity' but, when all is said and
done, you'll be showing up to 2 hours of your computer-generated
greatness to some (deservedly) skeptical movie-goers and, even if you
enlighten these 'great unwashed', there is a small chance that your
overall investment will 'tank'.
But then, as they say, nothing worth doing is ever easy.
More power to you.
